During the summer I will be busy with several cool projects. I am working 6 hours/day so at the end of the 3 months or so I can help pay tuition and possibly have money leftover for a gaming computer. I won’t have tons of time during college to spend on computer games so I want to have a machine that will make every minute enjoyable as it can be (i.e. highest graphics, smoothest gameplay).

I am trying to get in some sort of shape – I am running about 12 miles a week and lifting some weights. Hopefully, this will improve my chances with the ladies…

I am also working on my programming skills and it is really fun. I hope that I can learn lots with the tools I have (my dad bought me an academic version of REALBasic, a professional programing tool that uses visual basic) and approach college with a store of built-in programming knowledge.

If anyone has ideas or wants to share their summer plans, feel free to comment.

What kinds of things make you laugh? (Perspectives from the 21′s Century)

Comics:

There are average comics, like garfield, that have something for everyone but are kind of “Eh…dull” (in my opinion). I really dig foxtrot, which is about this nerdy kid, but sometimes funny for just anyone. Cartoons like Calvin and Hobbes, anyone can identify with. There is also the more adult cyanide and happiness, which is extremely morbid, disrespectful, blunt, and very random (depending on the author – there are several people on the staff who all contribute strips). I absolutely love it. Probably because I enjoy dark comedy. (I know, I’m twisted).

Movie humor:

We have Jim Carrey, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, (Sometimes Vince Vaughn) and others in “Stupid Humor” movies like Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Dodgeball, Blades of Glory, Anchorman, etc.

Actors like Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Ben Stiller, Ashton Kutcher, Bill Murray, and Vince Vaugn, make more serious comedic films (Sometimes not much more serious at all) such as Starsky and Hutch, Wedding Crashers, Mrs. Doubtfire, There’s Something About Marry, (lets not forget chick flicks), Dude Where’s My Car, Groundhog day, Ghostbusters, The Breakup, etc.

There is the R-rated stuff that is ‘heavier’ than everything else, and featuring new actors such as Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Jason Biggs – Grandma’s Boy, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Oldschool, American Pie, Team America, Knocked up, and of course Superbad. Personally, this is my favorite category. (Just kidding mom and dad…)

And of course comedies that don’t really fall into a large genre but are still awesome/offensive – Airplane, Shrek, Juno, Borat, and others.

Feel free to comment, especially on the actor list – I don’t have that many years of movie-watching down anyways so I don’t know much about them.

This is a little late, but it’s time to blog about the mission trip I went on last month, for anyone who wants to know how it went. There were only a  few people in the group, most of them from the St. Helena church where I attend. Bradly Ward and I (And the adults) flew out from San Francisco to Texas and then Cancun where we drove a few miles to this place called Playa del Carmen.

It is a well developed city, and growing fast, but there is lots of poverty. We stayed at the hotel Maranatha, where there is an adventist organization that does work there. Bradly and I started our trip off in the local neighborhood walking around to various houses and giving away clothes, hygiene items, toys, and other necessities. We also provided medical aid and dental aid. It seemed like everyone needed things around there; there was so much poverty. The streets were covered in trash, lots of people had tree’s growing out of their yards, and EVERYONE had a dog. There were dozens of dogs just running around.

Anyway, for half the week we did the same thing each morning – visitation or medical aid. In the afternoons we hosted VBS at a church they had there. In the middle of the week, we had a free day, on which we went to this mexican theme park of sorts called Xcaret (pronounced EESHKARET). We also visited some mayan ruins and learned about ancient Mayan culture. Later in the week, we went out each day to the Maya zone, a 2 hour drive into the jungle where there were Mayan villages that we ministered to.

After every day, I would come back to the hotel for home-made mexican dinners and then a swim in the pool. While it’s true that I was constantly hating the sweltering heat there, I still enjoyed the trip. It was a great experience.

As stated, my blog is created. This is going to take the place of my myspace profile, and eventually, when my web page design skills convene to produce a website of my own, I will move information on this blog to that. Till now, sit down and enjoy.

I also just update my profile on Deviant Art with some things I drew a while ago. Deviant Art is a neat-o website for artists of all kinds to gather and put stuff online and share. You should at least check it out.

Yeah they are just nerdy sketches, but they are cool nerdy sketches!
